Using Susan Winget’s Fabric Collection, follow this step-by-step guide to create your own wonderful wall hanging for your home.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

Susan Winget Fabric Collection:

  • 1 yd. Mums and Marigolds Patch
  • 1-1/4 yd. Mums and Marigolds Birds and Berries
  • 5/8 yd. Mums and Marigolds Berries and Leaves
  • 5/8 yd. Mums and Marigolds Stencil Mums
  • 2-1/2 yds. coordinating fabric A
  • 3/8 yd. coordinating fabric B
  • Batting
  • 1-1/4 yd. backing fabric
  • Quilt binding
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing Machine

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Width of Fabric = WOF

  1. Cut two 8-1/2×14 from the Patch fabric = Unit A.
  2. Cut four 5-1/2squares from the Birds and Berries fabric = Unit B.
  3. Cut three 6-1/4″ strips by WOF from each of the Mums and Marigolds fabric collection.
  4. Sub cut 6-1/4″ strips into twenty 6-1/4 squares = Geese.
  5. Cut twelve 6-3/4strips by WOF from coordinating fabric A.
  6. Sub cut 6-3/4strips into eighty 6-3/4squares.
  7. Sub cut 6-3/4squares into four equal units, you should have three hundred and twenty 3-3/8″ squares = Sky.
  8. Cut five 1-1/2″ strips by WOF from coordinating fabric B = Sashing.
  9. Cut one 4″ strip by WOF from coordinating fabric B = Pocket.
  10. Cut four 3″ strips by WOF Birds and Berries fabric = Outsides Borders.

ASSEMBLY:

Tips:

  • 1/4″ Seam allowance unless otherwise indicated.
  • Place fabrics right sides together before sewing.
  • Press seams flat, open section and press seam open after each step.

Follow the Flying Geese instructions below to make seventy-eight Flying Geese Units.

Join Flying Geese Units into vertical rows:

  1. Join four Flying Geese Units into a long vertical row. Make four = Unit C.
  2. Join fifteen Flying Geese Units into a long vertical row. Make two = Side borders.
  3. Join sixteen Flying Geese Units into a long vertical row. Make two = Top and Bottom borders.

Following the quilt lay out template to create the quilt top:

Block 1:

  1. Join Sashing to Unit B. Make four.
  2. Join Unit C to Unit B. Repeat = Block 1.

Row 1:

  1. Join Sashing to right side of one of the Unit A.
  2. Join Block 1 to the other side of Sashing.
  3. Join Sashing to the other side of Block 1.
  4. Join Block 1 to the other side of Sashing.
  5. Join Sashing to the top and bottom of Row 1.

Row 2:

  1. Join Sashing to the right side of Block 1.
  2. Join Block 1 to the Sashing.
  3. Join Sashing to the other side of Block 1.
  4. Join Unit A to the other side of Sashing.
  5. Join Sashing to the bottom of Row 2.
  6. Join Row 1 and Row 2 together.
  7. Join Sashing to both sides of the joined rows = Panel.

Borders:

  1. Join the Flying Geese Side Borders to the left and right sides of the Panel.
  2. Join the Flying Geese Top & Bottom Borders to the top and bottom of the Panel.
  3. Join the Outside Borders to the outer perimeter of the panel = Quilt Top.

Finishing the Quilt:

  1. Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing.
  2. Quilt and bind as desired. Fold both sides of the length of the Pocket 1/4″ over, press fold and press again. Fold width in half and press. Stitch to the top of the back side of the Quilt.
