  • 3/4 yd. Black canvas – lining fabric
  • 3/4 yd. Zelda Comic cotton – main fabric
  • Bosal fusible foam stabilizer
  • 45” Webbing (strap)
  • 13” Zipper
  • 3/4” Magnetic snap
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine

Directions:
(1/2 seam allowance)

Cutting:

  • Cut two each 15″ x 15″ from the fusible foam, main fabric and lining fabric.
  • Press the fusible foam pieces to the wrong side of the main fabric – bag.
  • Cut out a 3” square at the bottom of the bag on each side. Repeat for the lining fabric.
  • Cut one each 12″ x 14″ from the fusible foam, main and lining fabrics – flap.

  • Cut two each 3″ x 12″ from the fusible foam, main and lining fabrics – zipper panels.
  • Cut one 12” x 14” from the main fabrics – pocket.

Assemble:

Pocket:

1. Fold the pocket fabric in half with the short sides together and right sides together. Sew down both sides and across the bottom leaving a 4” opening for turning. Clip corners, turn right side out and press the raw edges in.

2. Center the pocket 3” from the bottom edge of the bag and 3” in on both side with the fold facing up. Stitch down both sides and across the bottom leaving the top open. Stitch down the center of the pocket to create two pockets (this will be the front of the bag).

3. Measure 3” up from the bottom center of the pocket and mark the spot. Attach one half of the magnetic snap at this spot following instruction on package.

Bag:

  1. Place the bag pieces right sides together, matching raw edges, sew both sides and across the bottom, leaving the square cutouts open.
  2. Match the raw edges of the side and bottom seams (square cutouts) and sew the opening closed. Repeat for the other side of the bag. Leave the bag inside out.

Strap:

1. Mark where you want the strap to go on the sides of the bag and baste in place with the raw edges of the strap lined up with the raw edge of the bag. Make sure the straps aren’t twisted and are tucked inside of the bag.

Flap:

  1. Press the fusible foam piece to the wrong side of the main fabric – flap.
  2. Place the flap and the lining pieces right sides together, matching raw edges, sew both sides and across the bottom, leaving the top open. Turn right side out and press.
  3. Measure 1” up from the bottom center of the flap lining side and mark the spot. Attach the other half of the magnetic snap at this spot following instruction on package.

Zipper Panels:

  1. Press the fusible foam piece to the wrong side of the main fabric.
  2. Place the zipper panel and the lining piece right sides together, matching raw edges, sew both sides and across the bottom, leaving the top open. Turn right side out and press – zipper panel. Repeat for the other zipper panel.

Start with the bottom end of one of the zipper pieces, pin it along the lining edge of the zipper panel, when you reach the corner neatly curve the zipper to go around the short end and cut the excess zipper length off. Repeat for the other zipper panel.

Lining:

1. Repeat steps one and two in the bag instructions for the lining, except leave a 4” opening at the bottom of the lining.

Assemble the Bag:

  1. Align flap along the top edge of the bag back and baste in place.
  2. Align the zipper panel with the pull side of the zipper wrong side up, center raw edge along the top edge of the flap and baste in place.
  3. Align the other zipper panel wrong side up, center raw edge along the top edge of the front of the bag and baste in place.
  4. With the right sides facing each other put the bag inside of the lining.
  5. Line up the side seams of both layers and sew around the top.
  6. Pull the bag out of the lining opening and stitch the opening closed.
  7. Tuck the lining inside the bag and press the seams down around the top of the bag. Topstitch around the top (make sure the flap, strap and zipper panels are not inside of the bag when you topstitch).
