Materials:

  • 1/4-yard Spring Garden
  • 3/8-yard Neighbors
  • 3/8-yard Bicycles
  • 3/8-yard House Shopping
  • 3/8-yard Wheel Barrels
  • 1 yard Packed Daisies
  • 2 yards Wood Slats

Cutting:
From Packed Daisies, CUT:

  • Six 3½ Sub cut strips into sixty-five (65) 3½ squares = A1
  • Three 4½ Sub cut strips into twenty-six 4½ squares = A2

From Wood Slats, CUT:

  • Two 5strips from WOF = Top & Bottom Outside Border
  • Two 5strips from the LOF = Sides of Outside Border
  • Four 4½ Sub cut strips into twenty-six 4½ squares = A3
  • Two 6½ Sub cut strips into twenty-four 26½ rectangles = A4
  • Eight 2 Sub cut strips into twenty-four 2 x 9½ rectangles = A5.

From Wheel Barrels, CUT:

  • Fuzzy cut three 6½ = A7

From House Shopping, CUT:

  • Fuzzy cut three 6½ = A8

From Bicycles, Cut:

  • Fuzzy cut three 6½ = A9

From Neighbors, Cut:

  • Fuzzy cut three 6½ = A10

From Spring Garden, Cut:

  • Five 1-1/2strips = Inside Border

Block Assembly:

Hourglass Block:primroselane1

  1. Layer fabric A3 square on top of fabric A2 square with right sides together (see diagrams below for steps 1–6).
  2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the Fabric A3 square. Sew 1/4″ seam on each side of the drawn line.
  3. Cut the pair apart along the drawn line.
  4. Without moving the block, place your ruler over the opposite diagonal and cut.
  5. There are now four triangle units. Each unit has one A2 triangle and one A3 triangle.
  6. Press the seams toward the dark side and match up pairs of triangles that form the hourglass block together. Sew units together matching the center seams, stitching from edge to edge. Press seams together in one direction.
  7. Square up the block: use a ruler with a diagonal line (match diagonal line on the ruler with the diagonal line on the block), and make sure you measure from the center intersecting point out to square up your blocks. Trim block to 9½square. Make Picture152 blocks.

Star Block:

  1. Lay A1 square to the right and left sides of Hourglass Block with right sides together. Sew 1/4″ seam on each side (see diagrams below for steps). Press the seams toward the dark side. Make twenty-six rows.
  2. Lay Hourglass Block to the right and left sides of A7 square with right sides together. Sew 1/4″ seam on each side (see diagrams below for steps). Press the seams toward the dark side. Make three rows each, with A7 square, A8 square, A9 square and A10 square = twelve rows.

Picture Frame Block:

  1. Primoselan3.0Lay A4 rectangle to the right and left sides of A7 square with right sides together. Sew 1/4″ seam on each side (see diagrams below for steps). Press the seams toward the dark side.
  2. Lay A5 rectangle to the top and bottom sides of A7 square with right sides together. Sew 1/4″ seam on each side (see diagrams below for steps). Press the seams toward the dark side.
  3. Trim block to 9½square.
