Frozen is so popular with children this year that you can’t go anywhere without seeing Elsa and Anna dance around your head like sugar plums. This project can be tailored to your child’s favorite Disney character or, if it’s a project for you, find a relaxing color or pattern that fits with your bedroom’s design. With simple instructions to follow and little experience required, this pillowcase tutorial will take about an hour. After that, you’ll be resting easy with this refreshing bedroom accent that adds just a touch of whimsy to your evening.
- Basic sewing supplies
- 1 yard of minky fabric
- 1 yard satin fabric
You’ll start by cutting out material for the cuff and the pillowcase. Cut one(1) piece that measures 5” x 45” for the cuff, and another piece that measures 30” x 45” for the case.
Take the cuff material and place one of the raw edges under about ½” then press and topstitch to make the hem. Take the other raw edge of the cuff and place it along the pillowcase material with the right sides facing each other. Make sure to leave ¼” seam allowance.
Turn the cuff to the inside and press along the seam. Make sure it’s in place (use pins if you need to!) and then topstitch it in place. You can use the hem as a guide if needed.
Fold the pillowcase in half so that the wrong sides face each other and then stitch the bottom and side with a ¼” seam. Using fabric scissors, trim the remaining fabric on the seam to an allowance of 1/8”.
You’re almost done!
Turn the pillowcase so that the right sides of the fabric are inside and press flat for a smooth appearance. At a ¼” seam, restitch the sides and bottom. Turn right side out, and you’re done!
Repeat for each pillowcase.
The hardest part of this project is making the bed! These pillowcases will look so relaxing and comfortable that you might need a nap after making these. There’s no shame in that. Put your favorite pillow inside the case, lay back and enjoy!
