As our Halloween candy stash runs dry and before we’re quite ready to untangle the Christmas lights, it’s time we give Thanksgiving the love it truly deserves.

The team at Springs Creative has put together some fun and easy ways to use burlap and canvas this holiday season that allow you to put your holiday creativity on display. Burlap and canvas’ simple and natural feel can bring your Thanksgiving decor a warm, rustic aesthetic that’s sure to please your guests, even the ones down at the kid’s table. And as important as the Thanksgiving meal is, it’s equally as important to welcome your friends and family with cozy, festive touches.

Utensil holder

Give place settings an extra special look with a printed design

  • Hole punch
  • 8 1/2″ x 11″ laminated canvas sheets (1 sheet makes two utensil holders)
  • Ribbon
  • Printer

*If you’re wanting to print a design on the canvas, you can run the sheet through your at-home printer first or use a stencil

  • Cut out two rectangles from a laminated canvas sheet
  • Cut out two squares from a laminated canvas sheet
  • Line up a square at one end of a rectangle
  • Using your hole puncher, punch eight holes through both pieces along the sides and bottom of the canvas
  • Lace the ribbon through the holes all the way around

Salt and pepper shakers

Add personal mongrammed touches to your Thanksgiving table

  • Steam any wrinkles out of your canvas pillow before getting started
  • Find geometric shape of a house (or any image of your choice) and measure it to fit onto the pillow
  • Trace the shape onto the canvas pillow
  • Add painter’s tape around the shape’s traced edges before painting to have clean lines
  • Paint the inside of the shape
  • Use a blowdryer in between coats of paint
  • Add a second and final coat of paint
  • Print the words you’d on your canvas pillow on two 8.5” x 11” sheets of paper and tape together to line up
  • Use X-ACTO knife to cut out letters
  • Place each word on top of the pillow and carefully trace each letter
  • Once you’re finished tracing, use a small-tip brush to fill in the letters with paint
